its a shame we couldnt complete that LONG battle, histbattle2game2. But that must be ntw2/cb fate. I sometimes wonder, why i begin such a game using ntw2/cb which usually crash and not use etw instead which is really more stable. Maybe cause of its artillery problem. :?

Well Ank,

That was a very good battle and actually quite stable, I think it's one of the longest battle I ever fought with NTW !

The problem came, most certainly to the fact that Pard & me were connected with Steam voicechat, I received a message from Steam and it stopped the CB battle...

Anyway, the battle was great despite this really painfull map with so many bugs (houses & holes which make the units react unlogicaly).

FVZ wisely adopted a very good defensive attitude hidding his units everywhere he could while we were trying to use our artillery at their best advantage. So FVZ finally deployed on the central hill surrounded by holes and houses.
Then shooting begun, the reinforcement were marching...So I thought I could push strongly FVZ before Ank would arrive, that was a big mistake from me (sorry Pard m8), I totally forgot about the steadiness and power fire of the CB inf lines with GM, I really messed up by charging frontaly (no other choice because of the tight area) with cav + inf (no elit units there). So I lost 70% of my army and took a defensive attitude while Pard arrived and took over the pressure lead.

Then, instead of pushing us the french were waiting on that central area despite their severe outnumber.
So it took very long before something happened. The austrians made a good move on french right wing and took 2 cav out, Ank was preparing a move on his left wing but i dropped...

It was long and bloody indeed. Hopefully we menaged to withstand your fierce atacks and hold the highground, our plan was quite simple than. Ank was about to smash remanets of Frogs army and i was supposed hold out with posibility of moving a bit forward.

Yes,a very good battle and even it was very static in a way that was only to avoid
any headless charge playing our cards as good as possible.
To the map:I love it for the obstacles AND possibilitys it gives.
But the flaw is really the bugs we had with the units, getting stuck in holes and that.
Even a canister barrage that was aimed at a french was shot to deep, hitting only my
militia.Never the less a challenging battlefield.
Yes,I do not trust steam and we will use another voice chat in future,I will check
if battlecom is still for free and to use without having a server.

Short action report:
We tried to play our biggest ace(artillery)right.Canisters do more damage
but you have to be close so you risk loosing a functional battery. So
we used long range fire when ever possible. The cav was our second ace.
What worried me most where the 2 hvy french units. No use charging them if
you cannot get them "alone".The killing of the carabiniers really took some
pressure away, freeing my cav for a charge in the center(mainreason why I
retreated instead wasting them to get FvZ general). The generals dead
would have been a great benefit but we still could have got him later.
I agree with Filip, they still had the OG/YG;infact they are good but can be
killed also.Watch the field, were our 12pdr faced the french:
Thats were I wanted to charge in with cav, rouuting the remaining volts,
taking out the weakened lines.Sure the french would/could have backed
that area up,but I am sure those would have routed.OG/YG was stationed
at the flanks. It would not necesarry had lead into a major charge, just
weakening the french further.Anything else would have been decided by
situation.Frogs men were at place,so reinforcing center weakens flanks
making the situation more even.

Now infact, the french killed more(and started with more inf)but we
count the dead after a battle ;) .
We only owned the french in art/cav and that by number, not by stats.
French having more inf and of higher value it wouldnt made any sense
to play brute force so the steady threat with taking chances did serve good.
We offcourse did not manage to break the french in time(crash)so for that
the french have another point demanding a victory.
I personally would prefer a draw since both sides had still all opportunitys.
But as sportsman and taking the game objectiv I agree the french won.
To many whats and ifs you could argue endless but we never will know.

Even quite static, for me also thrilling.I wasnt byting my nails less then Ank sitting
on a hot stone. In first operating 4 lines I only secured Frogs 12pdr and
his general.I even thought about joining the flank with frog to push the battle
on more open ground for a second......
As I arrived in steam group I was really surprised how long I have been in that
battle;time really can fly :)

Anyways,a very good game all and my respect to all of you.

ah i didnt know you were using steam, yes that seems to be the reason of drop.
Btw, Zietek was a good CiC for that battle i have to mention ;)
Parder, patience, i am sure umpire/s will solve it. Course its not only decided with the quantity of men remained but the layout of the armies and effective troops. By the way,who is the umpire, DJ...?

Excellent looks like Marengo battle 3 is on for next Sunday ;)

I wonder in light of the guys comments from Games 1 and 2 whether we should consider a map change ??

Yes no problem, if all the guys are happy for me to decide i shall take a look 2mrw (replay needed of course)

If things are not clear, perhaps we can persuade G24 to give a second opinion. ;)
