Argh, we've been spammed by a 'bot. Might need to institute a code entry for new users guys.

First time this has happened here, I have deleted it and banned by IP, how do you do the code entry ?.

It might already be set, which means you've been done by a malicious user - but worth checking anyway:

Administration -> Board Configuration -> User Registration Settings -> Enable visual confirmation for registrations -> Choose "yes"

If it becomes a big problem you might want to look at:

Administration -> Board Configuration -> Account activation -> Admin

A "bot" is some form or automated thingy that generates posts on the forum, there were about a dozen of them, so I deleted the user name and banned the IP.....it was something to do with jobs, not a real user, unless like Moopere said someone causing trouble for fun !.

Yep, it gets a list of forums that it can post too, automatically, then shoots out posts, usually with advertising or porn to every forum. In bad cases it will do it more then once and can actually bring down a site!!

If the "Random Code" for new users was set then new users must visually see a code presented to them and enter this into a box - this pretty much means that only humans can do it. Could you please forward me the offending IP address (PM please, not public)? I'll track it down and send a report to freeforums if necessary.

If this becomes a problem over the next little bit you might need to personally authenticate each new user to stop it. Thats the other options I put up above.
